NOVICE - $7.50 per hour

The novice must know and be able to perform these basic tasks of landscape maintenance services.

Responsibilities

  • Wear leather work boots.
  • Wear company issued uniform.
  • Follow all company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Use equipment with proper care.
  • Report any lost or broken equipment.
  • Help load and unload trucks.
  • Wash vehicles and equipment.
  • Able to lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from office or assigned job site.
  • Show up to work on time daily. Give 24 hours notice if you’re unable to.
  • Know how to use the basics of Know-it-All.

  • Leaf Rake
  • Broom

Measure of Performance

  • Employee will be expected to learn and demonstrate the proper use of all equipment within 30 days of date of hire.
  • Employee will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the use of hand and power tools according to company standards prior to advancing to position of Lawn Technician.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports directly to the Forman and Chief Operations Supervisor.

II. LAWN MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - $8.50 - $9.25 per hour (piece work)

The lawn maintenance technician must know and be able to perform the following landscape maintenance tasks:

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill all requirements of Novice job description.
  • Be aware of the safety of the public and fellow employees.
  • Report all unsafe practices or conditions to Crew Leader and Foreman.
  • Take proper care of tools to avoid lose of misuse.

Training

Tools and Equipment - The Lawn Maintenance Technician must know and be able to use the following equipment:

  • Fueling Procedure and Identification of 2 Stroke and 4 Stroke Engines.
  • 36" and 52" Ride on Lawn Mower.
  • Height Adjustment and Blade Replacement on 21-inch, 36 and 52" Mowers.
  • Edger
  • Hedge Trimmer
  • Line Trimmer
  • Walk Behind Leaf Vac
  • Identification of Broken or Poorly Operating Equipment
  • Loppers
  • Pruning Saw

Horticultural Practices

  • Able to identify by common name 15 frequently used plants (annuals, ground cover, shrubs/perennials, trees and turf).
  • Basic pruning, cleaning and detailing techniques.
  • Basic planting of 1 gallon, 5 gallon, 4-inch color, packs and flats.

Measure of Performance

  • Proficient in safe and proper use of specified equipment.
  • Able to identify the common name of 15 frequently used plants (annuals, ground covers, shrubs/perennials, trees and turf).
  • Able to prune, clean and detail.
  • Able to properly plant 1 gallon, 5 gallon, 4-inch color, color packs and flats.
  • Adhere to company policy and safety standards.
  • Able to work as a team member.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports directly to the Foreman and Chief Operations.

ADVANCED LAWN MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - $9.50 - $11.00 per hour (piece work)

The Advanced Lawn Maintenance Technician must know and be able to perform the following landscape maintenance tasks:

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill all requirements of Lawn Maintenance Technician job description.
  • Read and write in either English or Spanish.
  • Sharpen cutting tools.
  • Apply granular chemicals after proper training.
  • Have a valid Virginia driver’s license, an insurable driving record, and qualify to drive company vehicles.

Training - Tools and Equipment

The Advanced Lawn Maintenance Technician must know and be able to use the following equipment:

  • Leaf Vac
  • Front End Loader
  • Soil Probe
  • De-Thatcher
  • Aerator
  • Dump Trailer
  • Pole Pruner
  • Ladder
  • Wheel Grinder and File
  • Push Spreaders

Horticultural Practices

  • Able to identify by common name 30 frequently used plants (bedding flowers, ground cover, shrubs/perennials, trees and turf).
  • Pruning trees, shrubs, and vines to encourage healthy growth.
  • Basic fertilizer application techniques.
  • Staking trees.
  • Guy wiring trees.
  • Installation of 15-gallon and 24-inch box specimens.
  • Able to identify by common name 5 frequently seen weeds.
  • General needs of plants.
  • Recognizing plants with problems.
  • Able to identify by common name 5 frequently seen pests.

Measure of Performance

  • Proficient and safe use of specified equipment.
  • Identify by common name 30 frequently used plants.
  • Able to prune correctly.
  • Know basic fertilizer application techniques.
  • Know when and how to sharpen cutting tools.
  • Identify by common name 5 frequently seen weeds and pests.
  • Recognize plant and irrigation problems.
  • Able to stake and prune vines.
  • Able to plant 15-gallon and 24-inch box specimens.
  • Adhere to company policy and safety standards.
  • Able to work as a team member.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports directly to the Foreman and Chief Operations Supervisor.

IV. FOREMAN - $12.00 - $15.00 per hour (piece work)

Performs the tasks necessary to provide the best landscape maintenance service and works with minimal supervision in an effective and professional manner. The Foreman must know and be able to perform the following landscape maintenance tasks:

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill all requirements of Advanced Lawn Maintenance Technician job description.
  • Able to read, write and speak in English.
  • Able to communicate in Spanish.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and supervise two to five employees and be able to set priorities.
  • Demonstrate ability to train and delegate.
  • Completed training for the application of chemicals.
  • Be able to manage and supervise assigned crew members.
  • Report problems to Supervisor.
  • Train crew members to complete job within established time frame.
  • Plan and organize work for crew members on job.
  • Initiate and complete all required paperwork within established time frame.
  • Interface with client when necessary.
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures.
  • Know how to discipline a crew member for justifiable reasons and initiate proper written warnings where applicable.
  • Set up truck daily with all supplies and equipment needed to complete the day’s work.
  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Completely understand the company's Maintenance Program and Guidelines.
  • Know how to use the basics of CLIP

Training - Tools and Equipment

The Foreman must know and be able to use the following equipment:

  • Chain Saw
  • Drive a Truck with a Trailer
  • Basic Troubleshooting on Power Equipment
  • Measuring Wheel

Horticultural Practices

  • Able to identify by common name 50 frequently used plants.
  • Able to identify by common name 10 frequently seen weeds.
  • Able to identify by common name 10 frequently seen garden pests.
  • Calibrating fertilizer application equipment.
  • Basic elements of fertilizer.
  • Recognizing and documenting potential hazards.

Pesticide Practices

  • Use of pesticide application equipment and proper application techniques.
  • Proper cleaning procedure for application equipment.
  • Proper procedure for transporting and storing pesticides.
  • Proper procedure for emergency spill cleanup.
  • Proper use of safety gear.
  • Participation in training program designed for basic pest control procedures.

Reporting Relationship

The Foreman reports directly to the Chief Operations Supervisor and Chief Operations Officer.
